Eleven fillies have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s 2016 Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick; the final point of call on the traditional path towards the Group 1 Flight Stakes in a fortnight.
Foxplay returned to racing for an impressive win a fortnight ago and will leave from the ideal barrier 4 in the Tea Rose Stakes, with leading hoop Hugh Bowman in the saddle.
Resuming in June for second in the Pro-Ride Maiden (1300m) at Warwick Farm, the Foxwedge filly broke through for her first race win in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1350m) before running second behind Awoke in a Rosehill minor over 1400m) on July 2nd.
Having savaged the line for a two length win in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) first-up, Foxplay should carry plenty of benefit into Saturday’s Tea Rose Stakes.
Bacarella has been unlucky to run second in two Group 2 races this time, and has drawn into the Tea Rose Stakes on the rail, with Tim Clark in the saddle.
Posting one win and her two minors through only four career starts so far, Bacarella was rated little chance of success in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) first-up but ran second behind Omei Sword.
Again figuring at double-figure odds to win the Furious Stakes last start, the Beneteau filly was unlucky to be run down on the line, but has reportedly taken plenty of benefit from the performance.
Godolphin will be well represented in the Group 2 feature after trainer John O’Shea confirmed Chipanda in the 2016 Tea Rose Stakes field.
Chipanda is yet to post a black type win, but has laid a great account for herself via a racing record of one victory and two minors through five starts,
Returning to the paddock after running fourth in the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m), the Sepoy filly is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from her first-up run for seventh in the Furious Stakes.
