History of The Tea Rose Stakes

The Tea Rose Stakes was inaugurated onto the Australian horse racing calendar in 1980, and was first won by Dark Eclipse. Originally a Listed race over 1400 metres, the Tea Rose Stakes found its current distance in 1985 and remained as such until 2013, apart from in 1990 and 1991 when an extra 50 metres was added to the length. In 2013, the race started running over 1400m. The Tea Rose Stakes became a Group Three race in 1983, which was followed two years later by a rise in status to Group Two.

Betting On The Tea Rose Stakes

When it comes to betting on the Tea Rose Stakes, the $175,000 Group Two Furious Stakes (1200m) held a couple of weeks earlier is a definite race to watch. Several fillies will head to the Tea Rose Stakes off the back of a run in the Furious Stakes. Several runners will use the Tea Rose Stakes as a stepping stone to the $400,000 Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 2 so make sure to follow the placegetters through the spring.
