History of The Tea Rose Stakes

The Tea Rose Stakes was inaugurated onto the Australian horseracing calendar in 1980, and was won by Dark Eclipse. Originally a Listed race over 1400 metres, the Tea Rose Stakes found its current distance in 1985 and has remained as such since, apart from in 1990 and 1991 when an extra 50 metres was added to the length. The Tea Rose Stakes became a Group Three race in 1983, which was followed two years later by a rise in status to Group Two.
